Acts and the Eyewitnesses—my new article

My article ‘Acts and the Eyewitnesses’ has been published in Tyndale Bulletin, the journal of Tyndale House, Cambridge, and it’s freely available here. It’s the published version of my Tyndale New Testament lecture 2025. Here’s the abstract, summarising my argument:

Abstract: This article engages with Richard Bauckham’s work in Jesus and the Eyewitnesses in relation to the book of Acts. It identifies and expounds the important place of eyewitness testimony in Acts. It also considers the role of eyewitnesses within Acts in relation to the stories of Jesus, arguing (with Bauckham) that this is significant for the preservation of these stories in our Gospels. It then identifies some example stories within Acts which imply use of eyewitness tradition, including the ‘we’ sections, and assesses how far eyewitness material can be trusted.
