A conversation between the Martyrdom of Polycarp and 1 Peter—slides
I am giving a talk on the second-century document The Martyrdom of Polycarp (Mart. Pol.) at a seminar on Polycarp in Izmir, which is ancient Smyrna (the picture above is the ancient agora, or market place), where Polycarp was bishop during the first half of the second century AD. I suggest in my talk that the understanding of suffering and persecution is remarkably similar in the two documents. Here are my slides—I welcome comments and questions.
The conference is organised by Tutku Educational Travel, and Ali and I have been visiting the seven churches of Revelation with them for the last week—it’s been a fascinating and wonderful trip!
